This photo appeared in the Spring 1983 Aeronews Photo magazine and was captioned
as a P-51D 44-73870, that was captured from South Korea and put on display by the
Chinese. I further would add that the aircraft was transferred to the ROKAF
23.7.53 and that the pilot defected to China, date unknown. What a great one
to bring back home someday.... the serial is possibly 44-73920, the only
Mustang serial I have in China otherwise ...
Any other info on this P-51 other than it is 44-73920?

| I'd say it is 44-73920 and not 44-73870. '920 was delivered to the Chinese Nationalist AF somewhen in 1945 and was later captured by the Red Chinese. - I have another photograph of this a/c taken at a different date and from above. Supporting my claim is that the DF-loop antenna was a common sight in the CBI and on both Chinese Nationalist and (later) Red Chinese P-51's [and I have yet to find a picture showing a ROKAF ship with such an installment....] |
