"Unruly Julie" taken in the mid 1980's on west
coast CA
This P-51 took a couple of spills in the Late 1980's and has since
been rebuilt (thanks to
Tim Savage for the info) Does anyone know what
paint scheme this P-51 has now?
From
James Church, the first
a/c was "Unrulie Julie", and is a/c s/n 44-74446, with the
current registration of NL11451D , and is owned by a Mr. Bruce Jennings,
of Carson City, Nevada. It was rebuilt by Square One Aviation of Chino,
California after a forced landing it suffered about 3-4 years ago. The
wreckage had been purchassed by William Speers, a well known Mustang race
pilot, who had intended to rebuild the a/c.However, he was killed in
another P-51 crash at Reno, due to a faulty Prop governor, before the
rebuild could begin. The Mustang in question currenlty has an overall
polished metal scheme, with the name "Saturday Night Special"
painted in small red lettering on the engine cowlings. This name reflects
the fact that the owner also owns a gun manufacturing company that
produces the small type of pistols commonly reffered to as a "Saturday
Night Special".

| The above photo is of the current polished metal scheme, but it is no longer "Saturday Night Special", but "Checkertail Clan", with no name/nose art painted on the nose. The owner is Nathan Davis of Tipton, Indiana. |
